Crisis Text Line – A Helpful Resource for The Text-Savvy

I have given out crisis hotline numbers to countless clients over the past decade, but when I learned about the Crisis Text Line, I noticed more clients expressing interest in using this valuable resource for help between sessions, especially after hours. The Crisis Text Line is a 24/7 service offered for FREE. Those in need simply send a text (such as “help”) to 741-741. To help remember the number, these are the numbers on the left-hand side of the dial pad, pressed from bottom to top twice.

Ways to help:
  • Advocate. Share the text line with others on social media, add it to your email signature, share it on listservs, and any other way you can think of to help others learn about this important resource.
  • Donate. The text line is a 501(c)(3) and relies on individual donations for approximately 62% of funding (https://www.crisistextline.org/financials/).
  • Volunteer. Become a counselor on the text line (application and training required; https://www.crisistextline.org/volunteer/).
